Vox Pop comes from the Latin phrase Vox Populi which means "voice of the people". This is a tool used in a variety of forms in media which provides a snapshot of public opinion. Particular questions are asked for certain subjects and the public opinion is presented. Vox Pop may be broadcasts on videos and TV. The interviewer may approach people in the streets and ask them a question on a particular topic and give their views on it.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of Vox pop?
Advantages:
- Reflects public opinion.
- Makes it more lively and entertaining as the public have to answer spontaneously.
- creative answers.
Disadvantages:
- It's very time consuming as some people in the streets may not want to participate.
- May give biased opinions.
- Members of the public may be shy and not be able to express themselves properly.
